Unrealistic Expectations

October 30, 2020

Well, that didn’t go according to plan. My intention was to write something here every day and as you can see it’s been 4 months since I last wrote anything. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the expectation I put on myself to write every single day and then I missed a day and avoided it and here we are.

Yesterday was my 34th birthday and I’m not sure if it that which has motivated me or a tweet I’m about to post about #opencodereview that has made me want to jump back in.

I’m constantly putting so much pressure and expectation on myself to always be on, to be perfect, and reach lofty goals. I think it’s important to be frequently checking in with myself to make sure I’m not setting unachievable, unrealistic goals that will lead to disappointment down the road.

Going forward I’m setting the intention to write as often as I can but be ok with missing a day (or a week).

Did you know I also send a weekly newsletter called The Eggbeater about tech, manufacturing, society and the problems I'm working on.
