Unexpected positive side effects

June 30, 2020

Yesterday I read Spencer Wright’s article about the bad side of Patreon. A lot of his remarks matched what I had read before on /r/patreon.

After reading it the article I felt it something the Hackernews community may be interesting in and so I posted it there. Much to my surprise, the article spent the majority of the day on the front page and ended up with almost 100 comments.

Even more surprising was the fact that I checked my homescreen dashboard which tells me the number of subscribers to The Eggbeater and sure enough, there were three new signups, my first 3 internet strangers! I was (and am) stoked!

After some digging, I realized I had updated my Hackernews profile with links to The Eggbeater and to Tidycloud and that those 3 subscribers must have found the newsletter via my profile.

I guess the old saying, ”What goes around, comes around” is true.

I’m now up to 27 subscribers. It was a proud moment.

Did you know I also send a weekly newsletter called The Eggbeater about tech, manufacturing, society and the problems I'm working on.
